Internships and training opportunities
Recommended by leading universities in the UK and USA, C3 internships provide aspiring conservationists from around the world with the opportunity to increase their employability in the environmental and development sectors. Experience gained from working with C3 has enabled previous interns to secure places on highly-competitive Masters courses and employment in a variety of international organizations. Ex-interns also benefit from an extensive network of professional contacts and many have subsequently represented C3 at international conferences. C3 provides supervision for Masters and PhD students completing fieldwork for their theses and has worked with Duke University, University of East Anglia, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of Miami. Projects conducted with C3 have a good chance of yielding publishable data and we can work with you to define your research question/s. Please email our International Programme Manager for further details:chris@c-3.org.uk but please note you will need to go through the usual internship application process first.
C3 Madagascar and Indian Ocean islands internship
Spend 2 months on the 4th largest island in the world, a renowned biodiversity hotspot and one month on the neighbouring small island nation of Comoros, a lesser known and unexplored group of three volcanic islands in the Mozambique Channel. This is the only internship of its kind where you can experience the challenges of marine biodiversity research and conservation in two contrasting island nations. Many issues are common to both nations; extreme poverty, a burgeoning coastal population, unsustainable harvesting of marine and coastal resources and the existence of high levels of biodiversity but a lack of financial and human resources to manage it sustainably. However once you add to this contrasting socio-cultural contexts and governance structures you begin to appreciate the need for different and locally-driven resource management strategies. The combined internship will provide you with an invaluable insight into the reality of marine biodiversity conservation and an appreciation of the ultimate importance of the human dimension to this issue. C3 works not only with local partners and government agencies but also with international organisations and conventions to ensure that our findings are incorporated into not just national conservation plans but also regional and international research and management initiatives.
Please apply if you are: - a graduate looking for an internship which will provide you with practical experience for a career in marine conservation - a postgraduate looking for unique field research possibilities for your thesis - keen to work with an organisation that emphasizes community participation and empowerment in marine resource management - looking to gain, through direct experience, a realistic outlook on the future of marine biodiversity conservation - keen to work with people with the same aspirations from the programme country
Please do not apply if you are: - looking for a SCUBA diving expedition / ecotourism experience - taking a gap year before university
