ARTISANAL FISHERIES FRAME SURVEY

The Comoros currently have the least developed marine resource management programme in the Western Indian Ocean. This project will include a complete frame survey of artisanal fisheries in the Comoros and significantly enhance the marine resource management capacity of the islands through training of governmental, NGO and Marine Park staff. Local institutions will be empowered with the knowledge and skills required to record fishery data, enabling Comorian artisanal fisheries to be more closely monitored in the future.

This project will be the first complete record of artisanal fishery exploitation and the first fisheries data collection training programme in the Comoros. Through C3’s strong links with Ministry for the Environment, data collected during this project will influence governmental decisions regarding the future of the fishery and its sustainable exploitation.
